How Technology Has Meant Life Can Go On

There is no getting away from the fact that life has changed dramatically over the past few months. There is a global pandemic, and coronavirus has meant that things we used to take for granted, even something as simple as going grocery shopping, are now much more difficult, and in some cases impossible. Heading to the theater or cinema, going to see friends, even simply going for a walk, plus much more, has either been stopped completely, or, if it is possible to do, is worrying for the majority of people.

Thankfully, we live in an age where technology has helped immeasurably during this strange time. It has meant that, a lot of the time, our lives have changedbut have not been impacted in as detrimental a way as they would have been without having technology to help us. Here are some examples.

Learning

Although schools have been closed, kids have still been lucky enough to be able to access plenty of learning online. Specialists websites have been created, and some schools have even created virtual classrooms so the children aren’t missing out on their lessons – they might even be able to see their friends if they’re using tech such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Even if there is no structured learning, children are able to access the information they need to keep on top of their education.

Adults have also benefitted from online learning, with many signing up to degree courses and diplomas while they have been quarantined. Not only is this a great way to pass the time, but it means that people are gaining more qualifications to help them with work when the pandemic is over. Some have been comparing online and in person drivers ed and finding there is not too much difference – technology is just that good.

Work

For those who have been working through coronavirus, being able to work from home has meant that they have been able to stay much safer, and help to contain the spread of the virus. Without technology, this would not have been possible, and jobs would either have been lost altogether, or people would have had to go into a place of work, potentially making this health crisis even worse.

From being able to log into the company network, to using cloud computing, to having online meetings, the various methods of working that technology has given to us means that the economy has not suffered as much as it might have done, and people have remained as healthy as possible.

Family

Not being able to see family and friends has been a big problem for many people. It can get very lonely when you have to stay home for many weeks or months at a time, especially if you live alone. Not being able to enjoy the company of loved ones might lead to feelings of loneliness, and even cause depression and anxiety.

Although it’s not exactly the same, being able to use video calling has helped many people. They have at least been able to keep up with what is happening in the rest of the world, and make conversation with other human beings, even if they can’t physically be near them.
