Elsewhere in the Arctic, marine scientists have reported that large areas of sea ice are melting faster than ever before. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) analysed satellite data from 1995 to 2017 and found that while ice extent varies from year to year. On average it has been declining by around 2% per decade.
