If you’re planning to make a trip across the pond to the UK, then you’ve made a good choice. The UK has the perfect mix of rolling countryside, bustling cities and mesmerising historical locations. Not only that, but it’s full of cheap and cheerful, quintessentially British experiences that are a must when you travel there.
Here’s a rundown of just a few of the many great things to experience in the UK.
- Walk Hadrian’s Wall
If you’re a fan of the outdoors and an active vacation, along with an interest in history, this is one for you. Now a World Heritage Site, this famous wall was built by the Roman Empire. There is an official Hadrian’s Wall Path which will take you over the best of English hills and rolling moorland.
It’s important to note that it can’t be walked in a day, however. If you’re not too familiar with the path, do your research, as it’s recommended you’ll need at least six days to complete it! Think of the views along the way, though.
- Stop Off at a Traditional British Pub
All that walking is bound to work up an appetite, of course. Or, even if you’re not a hiker, visiting an English pub is still a must during a visit to the UK. Do your research and aim for the best pubs and food in the UK, such as The Flintgate Pub in Surrey. You deserve nothing less than the best ‘pub grub’ and traditional ales and beers on offer.
- Try Some Shakespeare
A trip to the UK wouldn’t be complete without incorporating a little Shakespeare into your trip. There are an abundant amount of playhouses and theatres all around the UK. One of the most iconic being Shakespeare’s Globe in London – so that leaves you plenty to choose from, and makes it easier to incorporate the nearest theatre into your intended destination.
If you’re not a fan of watching old English plays, however, you can still experience some Shakespeare-related culture by making a trip to Stratford Upon Avon and visiting Shakespeare’s former home and the Holy Trinity Church where the famous poet was laid to rest.
- Visit Cornwall’s Own Rainforest
5km away from the beautiful town of St Austell lies The Eden Project. This famous botanical garden is well worth a visit, especially on a summer’s day. The domes display a diverse range of plants from different climates, and the grounds alone are worth a walk around just for the views. The Eden Project is a perfect day out for either large families, couples or individuals, with something for everyone.
- Visit the Capital
This may already be a given, but you’ll want to incorporate a trip to London into your vacation. Take in the best sightseeing tours, with iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament; and if you would enjoy seeing a show, London is host to many fabulous theatres with a large selection of musical productions, whatever your preferred genre.
