5 Classic Cocktail Recipes to Try This Year

-

If you’ve had a hankering to try something classic the next time you’re mixing cocktails at home, there are some easy and delicious options out there. You can reminisce about the good old days with any one of these five classic cocktails.

While most of these cocktails are served “straight up”, they still use ice in the process of creation, so having a commercial ice machine, like Manitowoc ice machines, on hand can make drink making a whole lot easier.

Martini

Whether you want it shaken or stirred, martini’s have been around a long time and are still a popular drink. Mix one part vermouth to six parts gin in a mixing glass with ice and stir, then strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. It’s that easy. Garnish with an olive after squeezing the juice from a lemon peel into the drink (but don’t stir it again).

Manhattan

Stir two parts whiskey, one part vermouth, and a dash of bitters over ice. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a curl of orange peel. This is the perfect classic cocktail for whiskey lovers that want to try something new that’s old.

Old Fashioned

What’s more classic and old-fashioned than a cocktail that’s actually called an Old Fashioned? Nothing, that’s what. For this drink, you’ll place a sugar cube (they still make those?) in an old-fashioned glass (get it?) and cover with bitters (and just a dash of water) until saturated. Swirl this around until the sugar cube dissolves. Toss some ice cubes into the glass, then pour in the whiskey. Garnish with an orange slice for another whiskey lovers favorite.

Tom Collins

Not a whiskey fan? This might be the classic cocktail choice for you then. For this one, you need to mix all the ingredients up in a tall glass. This is a drink with a lot to savor. The ingredients you’ll mix together are one part simple syrup, two parts freshly squeezed lemon, three parts gin, and four parts carbonated water.  Add ice and garnish with a lemon slice and a cocktail cherry.

Gimlet

This is a really easy cocktail to make. It’s a favorite for gin lovers. If the Tom Collins seemed like a little too much for you, try the Gimlet. Just shake together one part lime juice to four parts gin, and sweeten with some simple syrup. Shake with ice and then strain into a cocktail glass. Drink it straight up or on the rocks.

These really are some great drinks to try and each of them has been around a long time. Whether you’re a whiskey lover or a gin lover, there is something you’ll love listed above.
